Swamp Thing

lyrics

From the bloody marshland, the origin of life,
Rise a Swamp Thing that pays for the iniquity of men
He once was a human, named Alec Holland
His body burned in fire but his pure consciousness survives

The meat speaks as the wood hears
The flesh doubts as the wood knows

There's no place today, anymore
For humane monsters like him
From the waters he fiercely arose,
The massive Swamp Thing

Forthcoming spring, the Swamp god hears her
Speak his name and feels a jolt of simple love
The touch of her mind, the aching nearness of her
Unlocks a flood of memory, almost too sharp to bear

The meat speaks as the wood hears
The flesh doubts as the wood knows

There's no place today, anymore
For humane monsters like him
From the waters he fiercely arose,
The massive Swamp Thing

"The wrath of nature is not wrong nor is it unjust that man should bear its brunt.
For anger at least I forgive you. The Green forgives you
But you are the last that shall be forgiven this day
And a city awaits my judgment."

Rebirth from ancestral seeds
Nature's became his only creed

Now Alec is at rest
His mind in a neverending quest
Wandered unto the heart of the forest
To land in the Marsh.
